BOHEMIA, NY — [September 1, 2025] — The AMAC Book Club is pleased to announce its September Book of the Month, 1984 by George Orwell, one of the most influential dystopian novels of the 20th century and a chilling exploration of totalitarianism, censorship, and the manipulation of truth.
Originally published in 1949, 1984 paints a powerful picture of a society under constant surveillance where language is weaponized and independent thought is a crime. As part of the AMAC Book Club’s mission to promote thought-provoking and culturally significant literature, Orwell’s masterpiece offers members a chance to reflect on the enduring relevance of its themes in today’s world.
“This book stands as a timeless warning about the dangers of unchecked government power and the erosion of individual liberties,” said Rebecca Weber, AMAC’s CEO. “By revisiting Orwell’s vision, we invite our members to engage in critical discussion about freedom, truth, and the role of the citizen in preserving democratic values.”
1984 introduces readers to Winston Smith, a low-ranking member of the ruling Party, who begins to question the authoritarian regime of Big Brother. As he seeks truth in a world governed by propaganda and fear, his journey becomes a powerful commentary on the consequences of ideological conformity and loss of personal freedom.
