WASHINGTON — The National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR) applauds Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, for introducing the Real Constitutional Carry for All Americans Act, legislation to secure nationwide permitless carry and end the patchwork of state-by-state restrictions that criminalize peaceable Americans for exercising a constitutional right. After the bill was introduced in the U.S. House by Rep. Thomas Massie last year, Lee has now introduced the Senate companion to advance these protections at the federal level.
“Sen. Mike Lee’s Real Constitutional Carry bill is the only legislation that will restore the right of all law-abiding Americans to carry a firearm in every state without having to beg for government permission,” said Dudley Brown, President of the National Association for Gun Rights. “Twenty-nine states already recognize constitutional carry, but this should be the law of the land, regardless of the state you reside in. The Second Amendment is not a second-class right. NAGR applauds Senator Lee for introducing this bill and urges swift passage.”
NAGR has been a driving force in nearly all 29 fights to pass constitutional carry laws and is continuing efforts to expand permitless carry to all 50 states. Constitutional carry laws generally allow eligible adults who may legally possess a firearm to carry it without obtaining a concealed carry permit, open or concealed.
“The Founders established a national right to keep and bear arms, not to ask for permission from hostile officials or risk imprisonment for crossing the wrong state line,” Lee said. “Many states already protect the right to carry without a permit, and it’s time to reaffirm this right for all peaceable Americans. The National Constitutional Carry Act will establish nationwide permitless carry to keep America safe and her people free.”
The House companion bill, H.R. 645, is pending in the House Judiciary Committee, awaiting a markup. Sen. Mike Lee is working to move the Senate version through the Senate and bring it to the floor for a vote. NAGR is urging members to contact their representatives and senators and support both bills.
