Last night’s election results have many in the pundit class triumphantly declaring a national repudiation of President Donald Trump and a resurgent Democrat Party. But as Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt reminded us on Wednesday, one year after his victory last November, the President has delivered on virtually all of his major promises – and the GOP would do well to lean into that successful record.
“One year ago today, President Trump won a historic election victory and secured a mandate to Make America Great Again,” Leavitt wrote in a post on X. “Never before have we had a President who has kept their promises to the American people like President Trump,” she added, before listing Trump’s many accomplishments.
Indeed, looking back it is remarkable how much the President has accomplished in just 10 short months in office. The Biden administration was hammered over the inflation issue for three years; Trump solved it in a matter of months. Gas prices came down in just a few weeks. The border was effectively secured in days.
The legislative achievement of the One Big Beautiful Bill is no less remarkable. Democrats fought tooth and nail to oppose its passage, and the corporate media repeated every dishonest liberal narrative about the law. At multiple points, it looked like Republicans might be at an impasse, but personal intervention by Trump willed it across the finish line.
It was yet another masterclass in “the art of the deal,” this time to deliver a slew of victories for the American people. During the 2024 campaign, the media sneered at proposals like “no tax on tips,” “no tax on overtime,” and reduced taxes on Social Security income. Now those proposals are the law of the land. In one bill, Trump did more for working Americans than the political establishment has in decades.
These achievements are even more awe-inspiring considering what Trump endured during the four years he was not in office. Not content to debate him on issues or policies, Democrats under Joe Biden fully weaponized every lever of government power against Trump, launching a nakedly political persecution of the former president to prevent his return to office.
Beginning in 2021, congressional Democrats tried to impeach Trump even though he was no longer in office – an effort that went down in flames just like the first impeachment hoax. The Biden FBI next launched an outrageous raid on Trump’s Florida home and released photos of the whole thing to embarrass him.
Then came the flood of increasingly absurd lawsuits from Democrats to harass, impoverish, and ultimately imprison Trump. Alvin Bragg invented a “novel legal theory” to prosecute Trump in Manhattan even as he allowed scores of violent offenders to walk free. A viciously partisan liberal jury convicted Trump on ridiculous charges so the media could label him a “convicted felon.”
But all of these efforts ultimately failed, because Trump simply refused to submit to the attacks. The more the left came after him, the more popular he became – culminating in a decisive popular vote victory one year ago today.
Trump’s doubters and critics went quiet after that result, proven wrong once again. But how quick they are to resurface now that Democrats won a few races in decidedly blue areas – as if New York liberals and angry fired bureaucrats in Virginia voting against Republicans somehow constitutes a rejection of the America First movement.
How quickly the TDS crowd also forgets that Trump not only saved the Republican Party from sinking further into the political morass of the early 2010s, but also remade it into a diverse party of everyday Americans that is poised to thrive in the decades ahead. How quickly they try to erase the fact that Trump won historic numbers of young people, blacks, and Hispanics – exactly the crowd that didn’t turn out for the GOP candidates who ran away from Trump this year.
Trump’s 2024 victory still stands, and the success of his term so far is undeniable. If Republicans were smart, they’d spend less time fighting amongst themselves and more time making the case to voters about how Trump’s policies have saved the country from the woke train wreck of the Biden years.
