Two More Anti-Gun Bills Signed Into Law In Colorado

HB 1133 and HB 1238 were both signed into law late last week by Gov. Jared Polis, marking a string of gun control laws hitting the Centennial State.

Going into effect July 1st, 2026, HB 1133 requires ammunition be accessible to customers only with the help of store employee — meaning ammunition must be kept behind counters or in locked shelves in businesses that sell ammunition.

Additionally, the law prohibits the sale of ammunition to people under the age of 18, with exceptions to allow sales to people who are currently between 18 and 21 — those who’ve passed a hunter’s safety course and to military service members and police officers.

House Bill 1238 institutes new security and age requirements for gun shows — meaning gun shows need to have a security plan detailing their vendors, the venue’s layout, and estimated numbers of attendees and submit them local law enforcement.

The events must also have liability insurance and video cameras, and ensure each firearm brought into the gun show must be tagged.

People under the age of 18 are also prohibited from attending gun shows without a parent, grandparent, or guardian.

HB 1238 takes effect January 1st, 2026.

This comes after Democrats recently rammed through SB 003, a radical permit-to-purchase scheme that mostly evades any sort of lawsuit.

Rocky Mountain Gun Owners is currently collecting petitions, asking U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate gun control laws passed in Colorado.
