Remarks from U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, prompts outrage for the gun rights community.
On Monday, February 2nd, Jeanine Pirro appeared on Fox News, making the claim:
“I don’t care if you have a license in another district, and I don’t care if you’re a law-abiding gun owner somewhere else — you bring a gun into this district, count on going to jail, and hope you get the gun back.”
D.C. law requires gun owners to register any firearms with the police, and other jurisdictions’ permits are not recognized. So-called “assault weapons” are also banned and cannot be registered in the district.
The National Association for Gun Rights asserted after hearing Pirro’s claim:
“Unacceptable and intolerable comments by a sitting US attorney.”
Less than 24 hours later, Pirro attempted to reframe her earlier claims in a social media post, that she is a “proud supporter of the Second Amendment” and it’s both President Trump’s goal and her own to take guns away from criminals.”
However, many only were quick to point out that then-District Attorney Jeanine Pirro called onto Congress to extend the 1994 Federal “Assault Weapons” Ban:
“I’ve been in law enforcement 29 years and there is no legitimate purpose to have an assault weapon.”
The National Association for Gun Rights is fighting for Real Constitutional Carry to allow all law-abiding gun owners to carry a firearm for self-defense without worrying about laws changing while crossing state borders.
