According to a statement by former advisor to United States President Donald Trump, the corrupt Ukrainian ruling class cannot be trusted. Kyiv’s recent crackdown on anti-corruption agencies is yet more proof that Ukrainian leaders are leaning towards authoritarianism, said Steve Cortes, a former advisor to the current sitting president.
It’s getting increasingly more difficult for the everyday civilian to decipher where the U.S. ruling class stands on the Ukraine vs. Russia conflict. One minute, they are eliminating military aid to boost their own stockpiles; the next, they are sending more weapons to Kiev. Sometimes the rulers admit to Ukraine’s corruption; other times, they don’t seem to care.
After Suspending Weapons Shipments to Ukraine, Trump Pivots AGAIN
Cortes made the comments after Ukraine asked for oversight of an anti-corruption group. Earlier this month, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky moved to place the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) under executive oversight – which would essentially strip them of any independence – while claiming the agencies were under Russian influence, according to a report by RT.
After Ukraine’s announcement, European Union rulers warned that they could reconsider further aid to Kiev because of the lack of consideration from the SAPO.
For his part, Cortes, who is now the president of the League of American Workers advocacy group, described the crackdown as “an extra-judicial attack on decency.” “This raid reeks – and it smells like gangsterism, not democracy,” he wrote in an op-ed for Newsweek.
Ukraine has not been doing a great job at hiding its corruption either.
Ruler Zelensky Buys A Luxury Mansion In Egypt
Questions arise constantly about how the Ukrainian ruler is spending Western-supplied weapons and money. Others have rightfully raised concerns about how Ukraine is commissioning people to fight and die in a war it knows it cannot win.
Ukraine Orders Its Officers To “Capture” 12 Men A Day For Conscription
This tolerance for debauchery is running thin with the American civilians as well. Many are tired of the U.S.’s constant involvement in wars it has no business being a part of. Will this ever end? Will the U.S. stop supporting Ukraine? Will they keep changing their minds about it? What do you think? We love hearing from you. Sound off in the comments!
