President Donald Trump is expected to discuss demining operations in the Strait of Hormuz at the G7 summit that starts Monday.
A senior U.S. official, who briefed journalists on condition of anonymity under rules set by the White House, said Trump planned to meet on the G7 sidelines with the leaders of Egypt, Qatar and United Arab Emirates to discuss efforts to wind down the war against Iran.
Britain and France have both expressed interest in aiding demining efforts once a peace agreement is achieved.
