5.11 Tactical Founders Jacket [FIRST LOOK]

5.11 Tactical Founders Jacket [FIRST LOOK]

Whether it’s spelled out or unspoken, every job has an expected dress code. Unless you want to stick out like a sore thumb among your coworkers, it’s wise to stay within those expectations, at least on the surface.

A blazer or sport coat is a mandatory accessory for many urban white-collar jobs, but traditional jackets have some substantial drawbacks for those of us who carry concealed firearms and other EDC gear on a daily basis.

Today, 5.11 Tactical released their new Founders Jacket, which maintains the sleek appearance of an ordinary blazer while adding concealment-oriented hidden features.

Many aspects of the Founders Jacket were clearly designed with undercover law enforcement or executive protection needs in mind, but also translate well to the prepared citizen. The jacket is cut and silhouetted to lessen printing of a concealed pistol, features integrated comms cable routing, and even has two hidden cuff key pockets and a flex cuff channel.

Of course, there’s also an abundance of slim pockets for key items like a cellphone, notepad, or spare magazine. Two of the three internal dump pockets near the waist have elastic Ready Loops to keep stored items from sliding out. The chest area contains the third dump pocket and two zippered pockets.

Elastic MOLLE webbing is present around the midsection and the shoulders. While bulky items and pouches wouldn’t be ideal in these locations, they serve as routing points for comms or can retain small items like a pen or AAA flashlight.

The 5.11 Founders Jacket is initially available in a dark navy blue color, and is made from a mix of polyester and elastane, so it’s much more flexible and stretchable than a traditional blazer. The other advantage of this material is that it’s washable in your home laundry machine, although it can still be professionally laundered and pressed if you prefer.
