Federal Heat Guard Can Case

With Federal’s Heat Guard Can Case, you can handle and stow a hot suppressor without waiting for it to cool off.

There you are at the end of a fun day shooting. You need to pack up, but your suppressor is smokin’ hot. If you don’t do something about it, it will burn you or melt your gun case or other gear if you aren’t careful. Who among us, as brand-new suppressor owners, hasn’t gotten a blister or two or have a melted gun case to show for that moment of forgetfulness? There are two groups of us: Those who have, and those who will. So, what do you do? You could wait. (No fun in that; the clock is ticking and you have places to be.) You could pour water on it. (That seems unnecessarily brutal, who gets fun from that? OK, the first time probably but not after that.) Or you could have gotten the Federal Heat Guard Can Case.

Lots of shooters have a suppressor sleeve, something always on a suppressor to keep from burning themselves or others and to cut down on mirage. This isn’t one of those. The Federal case is a glove-like deal that lets you safely unscrew or otherwise remove a hot suppressor and stash it in your gear bag properly for the trip home.

The exterior is a tough Cordura or Cordura-like nylon, perfect for protecting your suppressor. Inside, it is lined with some secret sauce that is heat-resistant and looks easy to clean. (I’ll tell you after a few weeks of abuse.)

On the outside are two pocket-looking things. How does it work? Simple. Unzip it to open it up. Stick your fingers into the two pocket-like thingies (so you wear the Heat Guard Can Case as if it were a glove). Now, grab the suppressor and unscrew it, or unlatch it and then otherwise remove it. The case protects your hand from the blistering heat.

Zip up the case and your smoking-hot suppressor is wrapped in a heat-protecting case it can’t roll out of. Yes, it will cook in there, staying hot pretty much all the way home. But while it is in the Federal Heat Guard Can Case, it can’t burn you, it can’t melt your rifle case or other gear, and it can’t roll out causing more problems.

How good of a solution is this? Had I not been handed one to test (and abuse, let’s be clear here), I would deem it something worthy of spending my own money on. (You can’t get much higher praise than that from a gun writer.) How sure is Federal that this is going to be popular? The first search I did for it came up with a listing at Walmart for all of $30.

Thirty bucks to avoid burning your hands, melting your gun cases, saving time packing up at the range and looking good while doing all that? That’s a deal you can’t pass up—so don’t.
