Congressional Republicans just blew the lid off one of the biggest scandals in presidential history, and the liberal media has been virtually silent on it.
In recent weeks, newly unveiled internal FBI documents have detailed a vast conspiracy by the Biden administration to target and harass President Donald Trump and his top supporters under the pretext of investigating the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Under the codename “Arctic Frost,” the FBI investigated more than 400 individuals and groups.
The documents show that in just one month, June 2022, investigators requested almost $17,000 in travel expenses to conduct more than 40 interviews. The full scale and scope of the investigation was previously unknown.
Astonishingly, in some cases Special Counsel Jack Smith, who led Arctic Frost, issued subpoenas to organizations that did not even exist when the Capitol riot took place, such as America First Legal. The whole thing reeks of a partisan operation designed to use government power to attack conservative thought leaders and institutions.
But perhaps the most shocking revelation is that the Biden FBI spied on at least eight sitting U.S. Senators and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives by obtaining their phone records. The senators targeted were Lindsey Graham (SC), Bill Hagerty (TN), Josh Hawley (MO), Dan Sullivan (AK), Tommy Tuberville (AL), Ron Johnson (WI), Cynthia Lummis (WY), and Marsha Blackburn (TN). Rep. Mike Kelly (PA) was also caught up in the spying operation.
Notably, Congress only obtained access to the internal FBI documents thanks to a whistleblower who provided them to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Ron Johnson – indicating that the FBI fully intended to hide the fact that it was spying on elected members of Congress for blatantly political purposes. Top members of the Biden administration signed off on the scheme, including Attorney General Merrick Garland, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
The scandal got even deeper late last month when we learned that the Biden Department of Justice also subpoenaed the records of Texas Senator Ted Cruz, whose phone carrier, AT&T, refused to hand over the data. But one District Judge James Boasberg then issued a gag order on AT&T, ordering the company to not tell Cruz that federal agents were seeking his records.
It turns out that Boasberg signed off on all the subpoenas to target the phone records of Republican members of Congress. As many readers will well remember, Boasberg is the same judge who ordered the Trump administration to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a suspected MS-13 gang member, to the United States after the corporate media sympathetically portrayed the criminal illegal alien as a “Maryland father.”
Boasberg has displayed a consistent pattern of anti-Trump animus in his rulings, including repeatedly attempting to block deportation flights. An appeals court rebuked Boasberg back in August when he outrageously attempted to hold Trump administration officials in contempt of court for not turning around a plane full of criminal illegal aliens bound for El Salvador.
The fallout from the whole scandal is just beginning. Texas Republican Rep. Brandon Gill has since introduced articles of impeachment against Boasberg. The government funding bill which just passed also contains a provision granting senators targeted by Arctic Frost a right to take legal action against the government. Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) is demanding an explanation from Verizon for why it complied with the Biden administration’s request to hand over phone records. Former Rep. Devin Nunes, who chairs Trump’s Intelligence Advisory Board, wants to know why JP Morgan used Arctic Frost as an excuse to debank conservative organizations.
But there’s another scandal brewing as well – the media’s steadfast refusal to cover any of this.
As Cruz correctly noted, the government abuses of power that took place during the Arctic Frost investigation make Watergate look like child’s play by comparison. Top Biden administration officials conspired with Democrat-appointed judges to spy on elected Republicans and harass everyday Americans for the crime of being conservative and having questions about the 2020 election. But the media has been mum on it.
As an opinion piece for the Las Vegas Review-Journal – one of the few papers willing to cover the story – noted, Arctic Frost is “the biggest scandal you’ve never heard of.” The paper astutely observes that had the roles been reversed and the Trump administration “used a flimsy pretense to subpoena the phone records of Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez… the outrage would be unending.”
It seems that Democrats and the liberal media are simply hoping that Americans don’t notice the egregious abuses of power that took place under the Biden administration. Like the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, the Russiagate hoax, and so many other examples of Democrat corruption, they are content to engage in censorship by omission.
We’ll see how long that strategy remains viable. Grassley and other Republican leaders have indicated that there could be more bombshells in the weeks ahead. It may be that Arctic Frost – already one of the most shocking presidential scandals in history – gets even bigger.
