A woman was found dead with apparent trauma to her body in New York City’s Central Park on Sunday morning, leaving police working to determine what happened.
Officers responded to a 911 call about an unconscious person in the park at approximately 9:43 a.m., according to Fox 5 New York.
First responders found a woman believed to be in her 60s unconscious and unresponsive.

Police said she had suffered trauma to her body, and emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
The woman has not been identified. Police have not released further details about the trauma or the circumstances of her death, the outlet reported.

“Terrifying. I think of the park as a very safe place any time of day or night, so absolutely terrifying,” a frequent parkgoer said. “My heart goes out to her family and friends.”
She said she had never had an experience in the park that made her fearful. Despite Sunday’s discovery, she said she sees it as an isolated incident and plans to keep visiting daily.
A frequent park runner also said the news was upsetting. “It’s terrible. It’s just terrible news,” the runner said, adding that the area is usually safe. The runner said the police presence was unusual but would not keep them from returning to the park.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains underway.
