The Supreme Court’s ruling overturning the long-standing “Chevron doctrine” on Friday dealt a major blow to the power of federal agencies.

Amidst strong Republican opposition lately, Congress has come to a stalemate when it comes to gun control legislation.

Since President Joe Biden vowed to do “everything in his power” to enact gun control, he relied on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) as the “rulemaking authority” on guns.

Some examples include:

  • Classifying guns with pistol braces as short-barreled rifles under the NFA
  • Redefining what it means to be “engaged in the business of selling firearms”
  • Cracking down on homemade firearms

However, the Supreme Court ruled last Friday that federal agencies no longer have the wide latitude to interpret ambiguous laws, as that power shifts to the courts now.

This gives gun rights supporters the opportunity to decimate the ATF’s previous rules in court.

Stay tuned to the National Association for Gun Rights as they continue to reverse the erosion of Second Amendment rights nationwide.
